En dehors des marchandises destinées au marché intérieur, le port de Dakar constitue la principale plateforme de transit des échanges commerciaux du Mali. Une fonction logistique favorable pour la croissance du trafic, mais qui fait croitre les défis de capacités.
Le président sénégalais Macky Sall a annoncé que les travaux physiques du projet de port en eau profonde de Ndayane pourraient démarrer ce mois même.
« Nous avons levé toutes les contraintes liées au financement, et l’État a rempli toutes ses obligations pour que ce grand projet puisse démarrer », a-t-il indiqué à l’occasion du 2ème sommet sur le financement des infrastructures en Afrique qui s’est ouvert à Dakar le jeudi 2 février.
Le nouveau port prévu qui sera érigé à environ 50 km de la capitale, nécessitera environ 1,13 milliard USD d’investissement.
L’exécution des travaux devrait se dérouler en 2 phases, qui une fois achevées, donneront corps à plusieurs infrastructures dont un terminal à conteneurs avec 3 km de quai, un parc à conteneurs construit sur 300 ha, un chenal maritime de 5 km, un quai de 840 m et d’une profondeur de 18 m, et un 2ème quai de 410 m.
C’est DP World qui a obtenu la concession du futur port. L’opérateur de terminal émirati y développera une zone économique spéciale (ZES). De même, des liaisons routières et ferroviaires sont prévues pour raccorder le port à Dakar et au réseau de transport régional.
Le port de Ndayane aidera à absorber une patrie du trafic au port de Dakar qui ne dispose plus de réserve foncière conséquente pour de grands travaux d’extension, alors que les volumes y sont en croissance constante.
