Devenir un point de transit incontournable pour les pays voisins enclavés, notamment le Botswana, la Zambie et le Zimbabwe, constitue l’un des objectifs de la Namibie qui, en plus d’investir dans les infrastructures portuaires, compte y associer l’expertise des multinationales pour concrétiser son ambition.
La branche TIL (Terminal Investment Limited) de MSC, spécialisée dans la gestion des terminaux à conteneur, a été choisie comme soumissionnaire privilégié pour la concession du nouveau terminal (NCT) de Walvis Bay en Namibie.
TIL group a été désigné au terme d’une demande de propositions lancée en avril dernier, à 5 soumissionnaires ayant répondu à la manifestation d’intérêt émise en 2021. La demande de propositions a été clôturée le 29 juillet 2022 et deux offres ont été reçues.
Selon Andrew Kanim, DG de Namport, l’autorité portuaire en charge de la gestion des ports de Walvis Bay et de Luderitz, le processus de négociation et de transfert entre les deux parties sera finalisé d’ici le premier trimestre 2023.
Les objectifs de la concession visent selon lui à augmenter les volumes de fret, accroître l’engagement d’investissement et les garanties d’emploi, avec des pénalités fixées pour la non-atteinte des objectifs de performance et de volume convenus.
Désormais premier armateur mondial, MSC avec sa flotte et son réseau maritime, pourrait être un apporteur de trafic pour le terminal, et de ce fait pour le port de Walvis Bay.
