Le PDG de TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanné s’est rendu au Rwanda et a conclu un accord pour soutenir le Rwanda Development Board en marge de l’annonce de la décision finale d’investissement (FID) prévue en Ouganda.
Patrick Pouyanné explique que « cet accord de collaboration démontre la volonté de la compagnie TotalEnergies à procéder au déploiement de sa stratégie multi-énergies en Afrique, notamment au Rwanda, pays en plein essor économique ».
Il devrait couvrir la répartition de produits, le GPL, l’hydroélectricité, le stockage d’électricité pour le réseau, les solutions basées sur la nature pour le stockage du carbone et les programmes de formation sur la transition énergétique.
« Nous sommes heureux de saisir cette opportunité de travailler avec le Rwanda et de contribuer au développement de son secteur de l’énergie, en ligne avec l’ambition de TotalEnergies de devenir une entreprise mondiale multi-énergies » a- ajouté Pouyanné.
La PDG du Rwanda Development Board, Clare Akamanzi, estime que l’investissement de Total était opportun pour un pays qui place l’environnement au cœur de ses stratégies de développement.
S’y ajoute le transfert de compétences dans des domaines critiques tels que les énergies renouvelables et la transition énergétique aidera en conséquence le développement d’une expertise locale dans le secteur de l’énergie.
TotalEnergies annonce également la constitution d’une filiale locale, TotalEnergies Marketing Rwanda qui vient d’installer un bureau permanent à Kigali.
Le Rwanda a été impliqué dans la contre-insurrection dans le nord du Mozambique, où Total œuvre pour la construction d’un important projet de GNL.
A la suite d’un attentat terroriste en mars 2021, l’entreprise avait déclaré un cas de force majeure. Et l’Union européenne (UE) avait exprimé son soutien au travail de sécurité du Rwanda au Mozambique.
Selon les propos de l’ambassadeur de l’UE au Rwanda, Nicola Bellomo, il y avait « une discussion en cours sur un éventuel soutien de l’UE au Rwanda et pour identifier de nouvelles voies pour promouvoir et préserver la paix et la sécurité sur le continent ».
