Le Sénégal va bientôt accueillir la toute première unité flottante modulaire de stockage et de regazéification de gaz naturel liquéfié (GNL) au monde. En effet , le navire gaz-électricité est prêt à desservir les réseaux terrestres du Sénégal après la conversion d’un méthanier de 125 000 m³ en FSRU modulaire (M-FSRU) par la société d’ingénierie GAS Entec.
Le nouveau M-FSRU qui est détenu par KARMOL, une joint-venture comprenant le producteur d’électricité turc Karadeniz Energy Group et la société de transport japonaise Mitsui OSK Lines, dispose d’une capacité d’évolution de 15 à 300 millions de pieds cubes standard par jour.
En plus de diminuer les émissions de carbone du Sénégal provenant de la production d’électricité, le M-FSRU est le premier terminal flottant modulaire de regazéification de GNL au monde, livrant du gaz de GNL à la centrale électrique flottante de 236 MW de Karpowership, le Karadeniz Powership Aysegul Sultan à Port Dakar.

GAS Entec, qui est une filiale d’Atlantic Gulf & Pacific International Holding était responsable de la conception complète qui comprenait la conception technique frontale ainsi que l’approbation de classe, l’ingénierie de conception de la production, la fourniture de la technologie de regazéification, la mise en service de l’équipement de regazage essentiel ainsi que le les travaux d’installation nécessaires à la construction du M-FSRU.
Par ailleurs, le PDG de GAS Entec, Chong-Ho Kwak n’a pas caché sa satisfaction. « Nous sommes honorés d’avoir été invités à concevoir et à diriger la conversion du méthanier en M-FSRU » a-t-il déclaré.
