Précisons que 10 % du commerce maritime mondial passe par le canal reliant la mer rouge et la mer Méditerranée, représentant de ce fait une source précieuse de devises pour Le Caire.
En novembre 2021, la SCA avait pris la décision d’augmenter de 6 % les droits de passage pour les navires sauf ceux du gaz liquéfié à partir de janvier 2022 ou transportant des touristes.
