The worksite is part of the investment plan of the operator, which won the concession for this port infrastructure in 2020, promising to inject 250 million USD over 20 years into the development of its facilities.

DP World, the Emirati port operator, has launched work to extend the multipurpose terminal at the Port of Luanda. The project, valued at 210 million USD and scheduled to last 18 months, includes the extension and modernization of the operations area, the construction of administrative buildings, customs facilities and access roads.

The investment will also cover the installation of technological devices such as scanners, and digital services. The modernized terminal will increase annual handling capacity to 700,000 TEUs, compared with the current 430,000. It is already the Port of Luanda's main hub in terms of traffic, handling between 70% and 80% of the 18 million tonnes of cargo handled there every year.

In recent years, DP World has positioned itself as a major challenger in the African terminal operator arena, previously dominated by operators such as MSC, Maersk and AGL (formerly Bolloré Logistics Africa).

In addition to the Luanda hub, it has won concessions for several other terminals on the continent, including the ports of Dakar, Dar es Salaam and Berbera, as well as the port projects at Ndayane (Senegal) and Banana (DRC).
