La compagnie pétrolière Shell est déjà active dans la recherche d’hydrocarbures en Mauritanie où elle opère le bloc offshore C-10 avec 90 % de participation.
Bill Langin, le vice-responsable de la politique d’exploration en eaux profondes de Shell et Abdessalem Ould Mohamed Saleh, le ministre mauritanien du Pétrole, des Mines et de l’Énergie ont acté, mardi 21 février, un accord de prospection et de production d’hydrocarbures relatif au bloc C-2, un périmètre situé dans les eaux territoriales de la Mauritanie.
L’accord intervient environ une semaine après la validation, par le gouvernement, du projet. Ce dernier s’inscrit dans le cadre des démarches entreprises par l’Etat, pour stimuler les activités pétrogazières, en renforçant l’attractivité de l’industrie locale des hydrocarbures.
Le bloc C-2 représente la deuxième zone d’exploration que Shell obtient en Mauritanie. La concession s’ajoute au bloc offshore C-10, obtenu en 2018. Elle est logée sur le même trend que les découvertes pétrogazières, Orca et BirAllah, respectivement réalisées par Neptune Energy, et BP.
Selon les termes de l’accord convenu avec les autorités, Shell détiendra 75 % d’intérêts opérationnels sur le bloc C-2, les 25 % restants étant détenus par le gouvernement mauritanien. Aucune information n’a pour le moment été divulguée en ce qui concerne le plan d’activité qui sera mis en œuvre sur le périmètre.
