Alstom, acteur mondial de la mobilité durable et intelligente, a fait rouler une première locomotive autonome aux Pays-Bas, démontrant son savoir-faire en matière de conduite autonome de train.
La manœuvre a été effectuée près de Breda, aux Pays-Bas, en partenariat avec le gestionnaire d’infrastructure néerlandais ProRail et l’opérateur ferroviaire belge Lineas.
« Ce niveau d’automatisation, connu sous le nom de GoA4, signifie que le démarrage, la conduite et l’arrêt sont entièrement automatisés, et que la gestion d’obstacles ou d’événements imprévus se fait sans l’intervention directe du personnel du train pendant les activités de manœuvre », souligne Alstom.
La détection est basée sur un radar numérique à haute résolution couplé à un système électro-optique multispectral, alimenté par des algorithmes classiques et d’apprentissage automatique, afin de détecter et de classer les obstacles sur le trajet du train dans toutes les conditions météorologiques et de visibilité.
Tampon de sécurité de 500 mètres
La locomotive, fonctionnant de manière autonome, a été confrontée à une personne, une voiture, un wagon et un aiguillage mal positionné : la locomative a su réagir toute seule, sans l’intervention de personnel actif à bord. Le système de détection s’est même avéré efficace jusqu’à 500 mètres des obstacles dans des conditions réelles, offrant ainsi un tampon de sécurité important dans les gares de triage.
« Nous avons ainsi montré qu’il était possible de faire en sorte que les trains »voient« devant eux et fassent face à l’imprévu en toute sécurité », poursuit le communiqué.
Pour Stéphane Féray-Beaumont, vice-président de l’innovation et de la mobilité intelligente chez Alstom, « cela ouvre la voie à une utilisation plus large de la conduite autonome dans les opérations de manœuvre afin d’augmenter la capacité des opérations de fret : un exemple de technologies numériques avancées, favorisant une mobilité rentable et durable face à la demande croissante de services de fret et de passagers ».
