L’allemand Siemens Mobility avait annoncé avoir obtenu le contrat de construction de 1 000 km de ligne à grande vitesse au mois de septembre 2021, ainsi que de fourniture des trains devant être déployés sur le réseau. Des extensions, dont une interconnexion avec la Libye voisine sont prévues en plus de ces 1000 premiers kilomètres.
