En janvier 2021, l’Américaine General Electric avait été désignée pour fournir les équipements de la centrale à cycle combiné de Cap des Biches prévue pour couvrir 25 % de la production électrique du Sénégal, grâce à sa puissance installée de 300 MW.
La ministre sénégalaise du Pétrole et des Énergies, Aissatou Sophie Gladima, a annoncé, mercredi 7 décembre, qu’un accord d’investissement d’une valeur de 349 millions de dollars a été paraphé par l’énergéticien West African Energy et l’African Finance Corporation (AFC).
Ces fonds devraient être injectés dans les activités de développement de la centrale électrique de Cap des Biches, une localité de la commune de Rufisque, située à 20 km à l’est de la capitale, Dakar.
L’ouvrage qui aura à terme une capacité de 300 MW, est prévu pour fonctionner au gaz naturel. Il devrait être approvisionné à partir des gisements gaziers de Yakar-Teranga et de Greater Tortue Ahemyim (GTA) dont l’entrée en service est annoncée pour l’année prochaine.
Selon les projections des parties prenantes, les travaux de construction de l’installation, lancés l’année dernière, devraient être bouclés cette année et couvrir les besoins énergétiques d’environ 500 000 ménages.
