Leader mondial des solutions maritimes, terrestres, aériennes et logistiques, le groupe CMA CGM rejoint les partenaires du projet de démonstrateur industriel Jupiter 1000 piloté par GRTgaz à Fos-sur-Mer.
L’objectif de cette installation innovante est de produire de l’hydrogène vert à partir d’énergie renouvelable ainsi que du e-méthane, un gaz de synthèse à partir de cet hydrogène et du CO2 capté du processus industriel. Par sa participation au projet, CMA CGM veut dépêcher le rythme de la transition de sa flotte vers de nouvelles sources de carburant à très faible émission de carbone.
Avec Jupiter 1000, GRTgaz veut répondre au défi de la décarbonation des réseaux gaziers et de l’intermittence des énergies renouvelables. L’idée est de convertir une partie de l’énergie renouvelable, aux moments où elle est riche, en énergie décarbonée (hydrogène et e-méthane) afin de pouvoir la stocker à grande échelle et sur de longues périodes.
Le premier électrolyseur (produisant de l’hydrogène à partir d’eau et d’énergie renouvelable) a injecté de l’hydrogène dans le réseau de transport de gaz de GRTgaz en février 2020 à la suite d’une phase d’études, comblée par l’obtention des permis administratifs puis de construire .
Un second électrolyseur, usant une technologie différente du précédent, est entré en service avec succès début novembre 2021. Au-delà de la production d’hydrogène, Jupiter 1000 recycle également le CO2 en le transformant en gaz de synthèse.
Dans quelle mesure l’avenir de la logistique est-il durable ?
Le projet de démonstrateur Jupiter 1000, parfaitement intégré à l’écosystème local, profite de l’expertise de plusieurs partenaires. CMA CGM apportera au projet Jupiter 1000 son expertise dans le transport maritime et la logistique, ainsi que des conseils et des idées nouvelles de sa perspective sur les besoins des clients.
Il faut rappeler que Jupiter 1000 est un projet qui attire régulièrement la visite de délégations internationales depuis sa mise en service (Pays-Bas, Allemagne, Espagne, Québec, Californie…).
Une étape fondamentale dans la recherche d’options aux hydrocarbures
Engagé dans la transition énergétique et le groupe CMA CGM s’est fixé l’objectif de zéro émission carbone nette d’ici 2050. Dans la continuité de cet objectif, le Groupe mise sur les carburants décarbonés pour la propulsion de ses navires.
En donnant accès aux résultats de sa production d’hydrogène vert, de sa méthanisation et de sa capture de CO2, Jupiter 1000 va permettre à CMA CGM d’accélérer le développement de la filière de production de méthane de synthèse, carburant indispensable pour la décarbonation de ses opérations.
CMA CGM dispose déjà de 28 porte-conteneurs bi-carburant « e-methane ready » propulsés au GNL et disposera d’un total de 44 navires de ce type en service d’ici fin 2024. Le gaz naturel liquéfié (GNL) diminue les émissions d’oxyde de soufre de 99 %, les émissions de particules fines de 91 % et les émissions d’oxyde d’azote de 92 %.
Cela contribuant en conséquence à booster la qualité de l’air. Grâce à la technologie bi-carburant fonctionnant au gaz développée par CMA CGM, qui fonctionne actuellement au GNL, le bioGNL et le méthane de synthèse peuvent déjà être utilisés par ses navires.
