Dans l’attente du gaz qui sera extrait au large des côtes du pays, le Sénégal a entrepris de mettre en place des centrales électriques qui vont utiliser le combustible qui sera ainsi produit. Après celle du Cap des Biches dans le département de Rufisque, une autre va bientôt voir le jour à Saint-Louis, ont assuré les bailleurs.
Après la centrale West african energy (Wae), en cours de construction sur le site du Cap des Biches, un projet similaire va être implanté à Saint-Louis. L’annonce a été faite jeudi par Benedict Oramah, président d’Afreximbank (African export import bank).
«Je suis heureux de voir que les sponsors (du Wae, Ndlr) travaillent au développement d’un deuxième projet à Saint-Louis», s’est félicité M. Oramah à la fin d’une visite de terrain de la centrale Wae du Cap des Biches.
«Le projet de Saint-Louis va permettre à terme d’apporter plus de capacité pour augmenter l’énergie au Sénégal et améliorer la qualité de vie des Sénégalais», a poursuivi le président d’Afreximbank, s’attendant dans un futur proche à la réalisation de tous ces projets.
Aucune précision supplémentaire n’a pour autant été donnée par M. Oramah à propos de cette nouvelle centrale à venir. «C’est un projet qui cadre avec les ambitions du gouvernement du Sénégal et qui va permettre au gaz produit au Sénégal de profiter aux Sénégalais avant de profiter au reste du monde», a-t-il insisté après avoir visité les installations.
Fadilou Sèye, Directeur exécutif du projet de la centrale Wae du Cap des Biches, a fait savoir que le projet est exécuté à hauteur de 40%, non sans revenir sur ses impacts positifs. «Le premier avantage, c’est sur les coûts de production qui vont baisser, parce que ce ne seront plus des combustibles qui vont être importés.
L’autre avantage, c’est le côté environnemental, avec des machines très performantes. Le gaz est plus propre que le combustible liquide, donc sur le plan des émissions, nous aurons des émissions réduites», a déclaré, entre autres, M. Sèye.
«L’avantage de ce projet, c’est qu’il va utiliser le gaz domestique qui sera produit avec les grandes découvertes au Sénégal, et ce projet sera la première centrale à utiliser le gaz domestique», a encore noté le Directeur exécutif du Wae.
Seul projet énergétique entièrement financé par des investisseurs locaux, la centrale Wae, d’un coût de 262 milliards francs, dispose de deux turbines à gaz et d’une turbine à vapeur pour une capacité de production de 300 mégawatts.
La pose de la première pierre a eu lieu en mars 2021 et la totalité de la production est destinée à la Senelec, dans le cadre d’un accord liant les deux parties.
