Australia's Woodside Energy said Wednesday that a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit for its Sangomar project is on its way to Senegal, where first production is expected in mid-2024.

Sangomar is Senegal's first offshore oil project, with planned production of around 100,000 barrels per day.

"We are aiming for Sangomar to go into production in mid-2024," said company CEO Meg O'Neil in a statement.

The FPSO Léopold Sédar Senghor, named after Senegal's first president, will sail 12,000 nautical miles (22,224 kilometers) from Singapore to its final destination, around 100 kilometers off Dakar, Senegal, the company said.

Traders expect Woodside to market Sangomar crude oil to customers in Europe and Asia (Ashley Fang report).
