Les deux autorités l’ont annoncé alors qu’ils s’exprimaient lors d’une conférence de presse conjointe à Dakar, avec la guerre en Ukraine en toile de fond, et son impact sur les approvisionnements en énergie, en particulier pour l’Allemagne, fortement dépendante du gaz russe.
Le président Macky Sall annonce le début de la production pour décembre 2023, à raison de 2,5 millions de tonnes de gaz naturel liquéfié par an dans un premier temps, et 10 millions en 2030. «Nous sommes prêts, nous Sénégal en tout cas, à travailler dans une perspective d’alimenter le marché européen en GNL», a-t-il assuré.
D’ailleurs, il déclare : « j’ai demandé au chancelier de nous accompagner pour le développement de ces ressources de gaz, pour la production de LNG à partir de l’Afrique vers l’Europe, et aussi pour le gas-to-power», c’est-à-dire la production de gaz destinée à alimenter les centrales électriques locales.
Il fait souligner que l’Allemagne est déjà engagée au Sénégal dans des projets d’énergie renouvelable ou de stockage de l’énergie. Le chancelier a déclaré que des discussions ont commencé en ce qui concerne le gaz.
