Alors que des informations en faisaient état la compagnie QatarEnergy vient de confirmer qu’en effet son partenaire Shell a bel et bien réalisé une découverte pétrolière au large de la Namibie.
Fraîchement connu sous le nom de Qatar Petroleum, QatarEnergy a confirmé qu’une découverte de pétrole avait bien été faite dans un puits d’exploration en eau profonde foré dans la licence PEL-39 située dans le bassin d’Orange, au large de la Namibie.
En effet, QatarEnergy a annoncé que « les partenaires du consortium comprenant QatarEnergy (participation de 45%), Shell (opérateur, participation de 45%) et National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia “NAMCOR” (participation de 10%), ont conclu avec succès les opérations de forage du puits Graff-1 établissant la présence de un système pétrolier fonctionnel avec du pétrole léger ».
Il déclare ensuite que « les partenaires vont procéder à une analyse des données du puits et d’autres activités d’exploration pour évaluer la taille réelle et le potentiel de ressources récupérables ».
« Nous sommes encouragés par les résultats du puits Graff-1, qui renforcent le potentiel de notre zone d’exploration dans l’offshore namibien » a fait savoir Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, ministre d’État aux Affaires énergétiques, président et chef de la direction de QatarEnergy .
Profitant de l’opportunité, il a remercié leurs partenaires Shell et NAMCOR, ainsi que ses collègues de QatarEnergy pour leurs grands efforts qui ont conduit à cette découverte, de manière sûre et efficace.
« Nous sommes impatients de poursuivre notre collaboration avec le gouvernement de la Namibie sur les prochaines étapes, suite à cette découverte » a-t-il ajouté.
Il faut signaler que le puits Graff-1 a été foré à une profondeur totale de 5 376 mètres dans des profondeurs d’eau d’environ 2 000 mètres dans la zone de licence PEL-39, couvrant une superficie totale de 12 299 km2.
