Les travaux d’extension du terminal à conteneur du port d’Oran sont achevés à 100%, a confié le PDG de la société de gestion du port, Mokhtar Kourba, à Algérie Presse Service.
Le chantier exécuté par CHEC-Meditram, un groupement d’entreprises algéro-chinoises, concernait entre autres le remblai d’environ 16,5 hectares pour porter la superficie du terreplein à 24 ha, ainsi que la construction d’un quai de 460 m de long et 14 m de profondeur.
La mise en service des nouvelles infrastructures et l’acquisition en cours de nouveaux équipements de manutention permettra de gérer de plus gros navires sur ce terminal.
L’exploitation des nouvelles installations permettra de traiter dans un premier temps 500 000 conteneurs par an, volume qui sera plus tard porté à 1,2 million de conteneurs, selon Mokhtar Kourba.
Le développement du port d’Oran constitue l’un des volets clés du plan de diversification de l’économie algérienne, visant à limiter la dépendance de l’État aux revenus du pétrole et du gaz. Cette plateforme constitue l’une des infrastructures phares prévues pour stimuler les exportations de marchandises hors hydrocarbures.
