Gordon Birrell, Vice-Président Exécutif de BP pour la Production et les Opérations qui était accompagné d’Emil Ismayilov, Vice-Président principal pour la Mauritanie et le Sénégal, et de Massaer Cissé, Vice-président et Directeur pays pour le Sénégal ont été reçu en audience par le président Macky Sall.
Félicitant le président Macky Sall pour sa récente élection à la présidence de l’Union Africaine ainsi que l’équipe de football du Sénégal pour sa victoire à la Coupe d’Afrique des nations 2022, M. Birrell a effectué, à l’attention du président Macky Sall et de la ministre du Pétrole et des Energies Madame Sophie Gladima, une mise à jour sur les progrès significatifs réalisés sur la phase 1 du projet Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA), précisant que le développement est maintenant achevé à plus de 70%.
Les échanges avec le président et le ministre ont également porté sur les opportunités de croissance, notamment les efforts en cours pour faire progresser la prochaine potentielle phase du développement – la phase 2 de GTA.
Néanmoins, BP poursuit son travail avec ses partenaires sur le développement du projet national « Gas to Power » du champ gazier Yakaar Teranga sur le bloc de Cayar Offshore Profond et son potentiel pour sécuriser l’énergie du Sénégal pour les décennies à venir.
« Nous travaillons, avec nos partenaires de GTA, Kosmos Energy, Petrosen et SMH, à la livraison, en toute sécurité, du premier gaz et au développement de la phase 2 du projet » a déclaré Gordon Birrell, Vice-président Exécutif de la Production et des Opérations.
Poursuivant ses propos il déclare : « conformément à la stratégie résiliente de BP en matière d’hydrocarbures, nous continuons également à rechercher des opportunités pour optimiser Yakaar Teranga, qui représente une opportunité importante et passionnante pour fournir de l’énergie domestique au Sénégal et de remplacer les formes d’énergie à plus forte intensité de carbone du secteur de l’électricité ».
Le soutien continu de BP et du partenariat GTA à l’agenda du contenu local ont également été discutés lors de la réunion. Ceci inclut le soutien aux entreprises nationales, l’investissement dans des projets de développement durable au bénéfice des communautés voisines au projet GTA et le développement des talents nationaux.
Conformément à la vision long terme de renforcement des capacités pour le projet gazier GTA, 48 techniciens nationaux du Sénégal et de la Mauritanie étudient au Royaume-Uni, où ils sont à mi-parcours de leur cursus de formation de techniciens de quatre ans, le tout, financé par BP.
À ce jour, l’activité de BP au Sénégal a généré plus de 2 000 emplois et plus de 270 entreprises nationales soutiennent ses activités au Sénégal.
