En dépit de l’apaisement de la crise sanitaire, les performances d’avant pandémie ne sont toujours pas au rendez-vous dans l’industrie aérienne mondiale. La menace plane toujours sur les compagnies aériennes quant à la reprise du trafic notamment avec de nouveaux défis d’envergure mondiale à relever.
Selon un rapport de l’IATA (Association du transport aérien international) daté du 7 juin, les volumes de fret transportés par les compagnies aériennes africaines ont baissé de 6,3% en avril 2022 par rapport à avril 2021.
Cette chute suit la tendance baissière générale pour toutes les régions du monde, excepté celle latino-américaine où les compagnies, avec l’introduction de nouveaux services couplée à des investissements pour renouveler les flottes, ont connu une croissance de 40,9 % du trafic fret.
L’Afrique a néanmoins connu le taux de régression le plus faible pour ce qui est des performances par région, alors qu’elle ne représente que la plus infime partie dans le trafic aérien mondial (1,9%),.
Les plus fortes baisses ont été observées respectivement chez les compagnies d’Asie-Pacifique (-15,8 %), d’Europe (-14,4%), du Moyen-Orient (-11,9%) et d’Amérique du nord (-6,6 %).
Dans l’ensemble, la demande mondiale (mesurée en tonnes-kilomètres de fret), a baissé de 11,2 % durant le mois d’avril, en glissement annuel.
Pour l’IATA, la contre-performance généralisée est fondamentalement due à la guerre russo-ukrainienne, surtout que le rôle clé de ces belligérants dans la chaîne d’approvisionnement mondiale. Cette situation a été accrue par la politique zéro Covid en Chine entrainant des problèmes de capacité en raison des annulations de vols.
Willie Walsh, directeur général de l’IATA a déclaré que « la combinaison de la guerre en Ukraine et des confinements liés à la Covid-19 en Chine a fait grimper les coûts de l’énergie, intensifié les perturbations de la chaîne d’approvisionnement et alimenté l’inflation » Il ajoute que « l’environnement opérationnel est difficile pour toutes les entreprises, y compris le fret aérien, mais avec l’assouplissement des restrictions de confinement par la Chine, il y a lieu d’être optimiste, et le déséquilibre entre l’offre et la demande maintient les rendements à un niveau élevé ».
