The city of Dakhla, the economic capital of the Moroccan Saharan provinces, will host the first Morocco-Spain investment forum from June 21 to 22, 2022, dedicated to promoting investments in this region.
This major economic event will be the first meeting of its kind since Madrid considered the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco as "the most serious, realistic and credible basis for the resolution of the dispute" over the Sahara.
Many Spanish businessmen, particularly from Catalonia and Andalusia, will participate in this meeting organized by the regional council of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
This is also the second meeting dedicated to investment in Dakhla to be held in recent days, a week after the major Moroccan-American forum held in New York.
On Monday, the Moroccan-Spanish forum will be marked by the interventions of the Minister of Industry, Ryad Mezzour, and the President of the region, Yanja El Khettat, on the investment opportunities that are available to Moroccan and Spanish operators in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, within the framework of the new roadmap established between Rabat and Madrid last April.
More than a hundred Spanish businessmen will take part in various panels: "what investments and what infrastructures for a green industry?", "the key innovative and sustainable sectors: agriculture, fishing and agro-industrial activities" or "the tertiary sector, lever of the attractiveness of the territory and improvement of the business climate".
Contacted by Le360, the organizers emphasize that it was following the official approval by Spain of the Moroccan autonomy plan as being "the most serious and lasting basis for resolving the Sahara issue" that "a new path for trade between Morocco and Spain" was opened.
According to the organizers, who quote the president of the Regional Council, Yanja El Khettat, "it is in this context favorable to the strengthening of historical ties between the two Kingdoms that this Morocco-Spain investment forum in Dakhla is taking place."
These same interlocutors recall that in 2021, "Morocco exported around 7,3 billion euros to Spain. At the same time, imports from the Iberian Peninsula amounted to 9,5 billion euros."
On the eve of this Moroccan-Spanish forum, the organizers emphasize that "under the impetus and leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Southern Provinces of Morocco are experiencing exponential development dynamics, driven by a new development model, whose overall budget envelope amounts to 85 billion dirhams."
In addition to the possibility of concluding partnerships between the business communities of the two countries, the participants will visit, from June 22, flagship projects of the region such as the Dakhla-Atlantique port, the new industrial zone, the fishing port or the Vocational Training Center of the region.
