The operator has set up an urban logistics base to deliver low-carbon vehicles to downtown Lille.

3 km from Lille city center, Geodis has set up a 5,000 m2 logistics base dedicated to last-mile deliveries. Complementary to its Lomme and Lesquin sites, it will provide two rounds a day of service to the city's private and retail customers, using low-emission vehicles: trucks and light vehicles powered by biogas and cargo bicycles. The warehouse has 10 dock doors and a storage area of 3,500 m2.

River connections

In a press release, Geodis points out that the new site also benefits from the proximity of the Deûle river, with its links to the ports of Dunkirk, Antwerp and Rotterdam, enabling it to offer companies end-to-end carbon-free solutions. The Plaids Cocooning brand already benefits from this service.

The goods, unloaded at the port of Dunkirk, are then transported by barge to the river port of Lille. Here, Geodis teams unload containers, manage stock and prepare orders for customers throughout France.

Eventually, GEODIS will also offer to take back empty packaging from retailers. "This new site marks a further step in our commitment to deliver low-carbon solutions to 40 major cities in France by 2024," said Stéphane Cassagne, Managing Director of Geodis France.
