On November 9, France Logistique held its Freight Transport and Logistics Industry Day in Paris. This edition was devoted to the challenges of ecological planning in the sector.

France Logistique held its annual event on November 9 at the French National Assembly in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. The event provided an opportunity for players in the road transport and logistics sector to exchange views on ecological planning.

To mark the occasion, round-table discussions were held on topics such as the evolution of transport demand, the sector's energy transition and urban logistics.

During the first round table, shippers such as building materials specialist Saint Gobain and steelmaker Arcelor-Mittal shared their vision of the evolution of transport flows in a context of decarbonization. It became clear that reducing CO2 emissions is part and parcel of corporate CSR. This will lead to a profound change in transport, whether in terms of carbon footprint or flow complexity.

More complex and expensive transport

During the course of the day, other transport players (Ceva Logistics, Heppner and Noblet) also spoke about their efforts to make their business greener. While each has initiated its own energy transition according to its own practices, all agreed that tomorrow's TRM will be based on an energy mix.

And we need to be aware that low-carbon transport will inevitably be more expensive. Questions remain as to how this additional cost is to be met, without impacting on the already low margins of transport operators.

Finally, the round table on urban logistics highlighted the need to work on the regulation of delivery zones and the acceptability of logistics flows. The latter are multiplying with the explosion of e-commerce and CtoC (private-to-private) activities linked to the re-use of second-hand products (Vinted, etc.).

A detailed report on this France Logistique day will be published in the next Officiel des Transporteurs monthly magazine (n°3157), due out in December.
