L’essor du commerce en ligne en Afrique a dévoilé de nouveaux défis concernant entre autres la nécessité de maitriser la chaine logistique autour de ce secteur. Des défis qui, pour certains opérateurs, constituent par contre de réelles opportunités d’affaires et de positionnement.
Ethiopian Airlines a annoncé un partenariat avec MailAmericas (MA), un opérateur postal privé pour développer des services de commerce électronique en Afrique et au Moyen-Orient, avec Addis-Abeba comme hub.
Ethiopian Airlines offrira ainsi un service de transport aérien pour expédier des colis à travers son vaste réseau, tandis que MailAmericas mettra à profit son expertise sur ce marché en Amérique latine et en Afrique, où elle dispose de connexions dans plus de 40 pays.
« Jusqu’à présent nous avons desservi conjointement plus de 20 pays d’Afrique et d’Amérique latine, et nous souhaitons étendre notre champ d’action à l’avenir. Ce partenariat nous permet de mieux servir nos clients en tirant parti de l’expertise, des accords bilatéraux et des réseaux privés de MailAmericas » a déclaré le PDG d’Ethiopian Group, Mesfin Tasew.
D’après Tomas Miguens, président de MailAmericas, le partenariat entre ces 2 grands groupes permettra surtout d’améliorer les délais de livraison ainsi que la traçabilité des colis.
L’apparition de la Covid-19 a bousculé les habitudes de consommation en Afrique, ouvrant une brèche pour le développement de l’e-commerce, dans lequel Ethiopian, qui y joue déjà un rôle majeur notamment sur le volet distribution, entend consolider son positionnement.
