A Dakar comme dans la plupart des grandes villes africaines, la poussée démographique rend complexe la gestion de la mobilité urbaine pour les autorités qui optent de plus en plus pour un renforcement des politiques de transport en commun.
Le président sénégalais Macky Sall a réceptionné mercredi 20 juillet un lot de 33 bus au profit de la société publique de transport en commun, Dakar Dem Dikk (DDD). Ces nouveaux bus sont destinés à desservir Dakar, la capitale, et les régions périphériques.
Cette flotte devrait permettre à Dakar Dem Dikk de renforcer l’offre de transport public dans Dakar où la demande de transport en commun par la route est assurée en grande partie par les opérateurs privés.
À la suite d’une étude qu’il a conduite pour le compte de la fondation Friedrich Ebert, Oumar Cissé, chercheur et expert international en aménagement urbain a révélé que seulement 6% de la demande est assurée par Dakar Dem Dikk.
La proportion restante est desservie par les minibus AFTU plus connus sous le nom de ‘’Tata’’, les cars rapides et les ‘’taxis-clandos’’, avec des parts de marché estimées respectivement de 35%, 20% et 12% des déplacements.
Selon un rapport publié par le Conseil exécutif des transports urbains de Dakar (Cetud), un grand déficit s’observe toujours entre l’offre et la demande de transport, cette dernière pouvant atteindre jusqu’à 7,2 millions de besoins par jour.
