Le Port de l’Amitié à Nouakchott, inauguré en 1986, est la porte maritime principale actuellement à Nouakchott, il abrite également plusieurs plateformes et équipements de service destinés à soutenir le développement du champ gazier partagé entre la Mauritanie et le Sénégal (GTA).
Dans une lettre adressée par la direction générale du port au ministère des transports en date de 08 septembre 2020, elle a indiqué que l’ancien terminal au niveau du port, contenant les postes 1, 2 et 3, « soufre de fortes dégradations notamment sur les voiles d’accostage qui sont des structures en béton armé équipés de défenses en « V » qui n’ont jamais été réhabilitées depuis la mise en exploitation du quai ».
De sa part le ministre des transports avait demandé dans une lettre, en date de 16 novembre 2020, adressée à son homologue, le ministère de l’économie, «d’introduire une requête auprès du Gouvernement de la république Populaire de Chine pour obtenir son appui financier et technique en vue de réparer lesdits portes à quais».
Le terminal indiqué dans les correspondances avait connu, ces dernières semaines, une montée des eaux de l’océan, faisant quelques dégâts légers au niveau des infrastructures.
Le lancement des travaux de réhabilitation au niveau du terminal, demandé par les opérateurs et la direction du port, pourrait entraîner de perturbations d’approvisionnement et la fourniture des services logistiques. Ce qui pourrait obliger les prestataires de services logistiques pour GTA à utiliser le nouveau terminal, voire d’autres ports comme celui N’diago.
