La finalisation des travaux de développement du champ pétrolier Ikike avait été annoncée fin mai, par le Nigerian Content and Development Monitoring Board (NCDMB). La date de l’entrée en production du site n’avait pas filtré.
La société pétrolière française TotalEnergies a annoncé, ce lundi 25 juillet, qu’elle a démarré la production pétrolière sur le champ Ikike, un périmètre pétrolier logé sur la licence OML 99, situé à environ 20 km au large du Nigeria.
« TotalEnergies est ravie de démarrer la production d’Ikike, projet lancé quelques mois seulement avant le début de la pandémie de Covid et dont la réussite est due à la pleine mobilisation des équipes » a déclaré Henri-Max Ndong-Nzue, Directeur Afrique subsaharienne de l’Exploration-Production pour TotalEnergies.
Un pic de production de 50 000 barils d’équivalent pétrole est attendu sur le périmètre, d’ici la fin de cette année. Un objectif, dont l’atteinte sera favorisée par la présence d’infrastructures situées à proximité du site. Des installations dont l’existence représente un moyen de réduire non seulement les coûts de production, mais aussi les émissions de gaz carbonique dans l’atmosphère.
Notons, qu’outre les retombées qu’il a générées pour le Contenu local, grâce à l’emploi de sous-traitants nigérians au cours de sa phase de développement, la mise en service du champ pétrolier Ikike est importante pour la production pétrolière, irrégulière depuis plusieurs mois.
Ceci, malgré les initiatives entreprises par le gouvernement fédéral du Nigeria pour limiter les actes de vandalisme sur les infrastructures de production et le siphonnage de brut, principales causes de la chute de production d’or noir dans le pays.
Le gisement Ikike, qui héberge environ 70 millions de barils d’équivalent pétrole, est exploité via une joint-venture comprenant TotalEnergies, opérateur du périmètre avec une participation de 40 %, et la société publique du pétrole du Nigeria (NNPC) qui détient les 60 % d’intérêts restants.
