Dans le sud du Nigéria, une explosion s’est produite sur un oléoduc exploité par le géant pétrolier italien ENI, provoquant ainsi une baisse des exportations et une décharge de pétrole.
La coentreprise Naoc, dirigée par ENI, a déclaré qu’une explosion s’était produite dans ses installations à Nembe, dans l’État de Bayelsa, diminuant les exportations du terminal de Brass de 25 000 barils par jour (bpj). La compagnie a indiqué que cet « incident s’est produit sur la ligne pétrolière 24 Ogoda/Brass à Okparatubo dans la zone de gouvernement local de Nembe. L’événement a été causé par une explosion, qui a entraîné un déversement ».
La société a déclaré que les puits reliés à l’oléoduc ont du coup été fermés, alors que des barrages flottants et des barges de confinement ont été mobilisés pour réduire l’impact de la fuite de pétrole.
ENI n’a pas donné de détails supplémentaires sur la cause de l’explosion. Il faut signaler qu’au Nigeria, premier producteur de pétrole d’Afrique, les compagnies pétrolières sont régulièrement rendues responsables des catastrophes environnementales, tout comme les groupes criminels qui forent les oléoducs pour piller le brut.
« Il s’agit de la deuxième explosion en l’espace de quelques jours, après un précédent incident survenu le 28 février à sa station d’écoulement d’Obama, qui a entraîné une baisse de production de 5 000 b/d. » selon la compagnie. « Les deux explosions étaient dues à des actes de vandalisme. Il a précisé que 20 barils ont fui lors du premier incident et que 1 250 barils ont été déversés lors du second.
Les habitants des villages de pêcheurs opérant dans les criques et près du littoral atlantique à Nembe et Brass se sont plaints des conséquences négatives des déversements fréquents dans la région » a déclaré Idris Musa directeur de la National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (Nosdra).
Noel Ikonikumo, président d’un syndicat local de pêcheurs déplore qu’à « chaque fois qu’il y a un déversement, leurs filets et autres engins de pêche sont imbibés de pétrole brut, ils sont condamnés et ils ne pouvons plus les utiliser car l’odeur du pétrole brut fait fuir les poissons ». « Nous avons écrit aux entreprises concernées pour qu’elles nous entendent et nous aident, mais nous n’avons reçu aucune réponse » a-t-il déclaré.
