Maputo, le plus important des ports mozambicains, a connu une hausse de ses volumes globaux après des investissements multiples en infrastructures. C’est le cas de l’élargissement de son terminal à conteneurs ainsi que l’automatisation de certains services.
Le traitement d’un volume total de fret estimé à 22,2 millions de tonnes en 2021, contre 18,3 millions de tonnes en 2020 s’est fait dans le port mozambicain de Maputo.
Ce qui représente une hausse de la croissance à 21 %. Selon l’autorité portuaire, la reprise du trafic maritime mondial, ainsi que la remise à niveau des postes à quai 7, 8 et 9 sont les facteurs déterminant dans ce processus.
Les travaux réalisés notamment, « la réhabilitation et le renforcement de la surface des quais ont permis d’accueillir des navires plus gros, associés au dragage effectué en 2017 et à d’autres mesures d’efficacité maritime ».
C’est ce qu’a expliqué Osório Lucas, PDG de la Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC). Hormis ces facteurs, il faut aussi noter la construction d’infrastructures ferroviaires à l’intérieur du port pour faciliter le déplacement de la marchandise vers les navires et les entrepôts, ainsi que la mise en œuvre de solutions d’automatisation.
D’ailleurs, Osório Lucas explique que « …l’activation du système Vessel Arrival Notification (VAN), du système Rail Arrival Notification (RAN), des systèmes de guichet électronique unique, l’automatisation de tous les ponts bascules portuaires, et enfin la coordination entre les douanes afin d’améliorer l’efficacité aux niveau des frontières ».
Il faut souligner que le traitement de la grande partie des cargaisons de minerais de chrome et de magnétite se fait dans le port de Maputo.
Dans ses perspectives pour l’année 2022, l’autorité portuaire envisage la poursuite de ses investissements dans les infrastructures, les solutions technologiques et le capital humain. L’objectif principal étant de renforcer les performances récentes.
