Plusieurs start-up africaines ont lancé des plateformes mettant en relation transporteurs de fret et clients. Elles ont ainsi créé des opportunités, mais malgré ces initiatives, de nombreux défis demeurent dans le secteur de la logistique.
Le développement de la technologie en Afrique a touché tous les secteurs, dont celui des transports et de la logistique. Plusieurs entrepreneurs se sont servis du numérique pour mieux proposer leurs services aux transporteurs, aux industriels et aux distributeurs.
Ces initiatives, bien qu’elles améliorent l’accès à l’information et réduisent les coûts des opérations, ne suffisent pas à développer la logistique sur le continent.
Bifasor, une entreprise basée en Côte d’Ivoire, utilise une application mobile pour mettre en relation différents professionnels de la chaîne logistique (transporteurs, transitaires, mécaniciens, etc.) et des clients. Le modèle économique de l’entreprise cofondée par Zakaria Daboné, repose sur le prélèvement des commissions lors du règlement des factures.
Au Nigeria, l’entreprise Kobo360, propose des services de livraison des marchandises entre leur arrivée sur un port ou un aéroport jusqu’au client. Fondée par les Nigérians Obi Ozor et Ife Oyedele, la start-up travaille environ avec 50 000 conducteurs qui livrent plus de 700 clients dans les pays les plus peuplés de l’Afrique de l’ouest.
Amitruck, fondée par l’entrepreneur kényan Mark Mwangi, met aussi en relation des entreprises ou des particuliers et des propriétaires des camions, pour transporter des marchandises, et travaille avec plus de 6 000 camionneurs.
Le promoteur affirme que les chauffeurs sont contrôlés, les marchandises sont assurées avant et au cours de la livraison. Aussi, en cas de problème mécanique, des véhicules de remplacement sont disponibles afin d’éviter que les livraisons soient retardées.
Ces différents projets ont permis de contourner la difficulté qu’il y a à lancer de grosses entreprises de logistiques en Afrique. Puisque tous les équipements sont importés de même que les pièces détachées, il faudrait de grosses ressources pour mettre en place une telle entité.
Aussi, la demande n’est pas toujours harmonieuse. Des pays comme le Maroc, l’Egypte, l’Afrique du Sud, le Ghana ou le Kenya, génèrent de grosses demandes internes, tandis que dans d’autres pays, les marchés sont fragmentés et pas toujours constants.
Toutefois, malgré les solutions offertes par les start-up, des défis subsistent. On peut relever le manque d’infrastructures efficaces, la difficulté à trouver les pièces détachées et équipements pour la réparation des camions en panne.
Aussi, même pour des sociétés qui mettent en place des réseaux de transporteurs volontaires, l’accès au financement reste difficile.
Selon des données collectées par la plateforme Digest Africa, la part des financements mobilisés par les start-up de la logistique reste assez modeste comparée à celle des autres secteurs comme les services de paiement.
