En construction dans le chantier naval du sud-coréen Daesun Shipbuilding depuis février 2021 et livré le 27 septembre dernier, Challah, le plus grand navire pétrolier en service de la flotte marocaine, est arrivé à Nador, dans la matinée du samedi 24 décembre. La mise en service du Challah permettra au Maroc de doubler sa capacité de transport maritime d’hydrocarbures.
Le navire pétrolier Challah, propriété de la Société de cabotage pétrolier (Petrocab), qui avait quitté il y a deux mois le mouillage de Busan (République de Corée), est arrivé à Nador, samedi 24 décembre 2022, après avoir fait successivement escale au Sri Lanka (Colombo), Pakistan (Karachi), Emirats Arabes Unis (Hamriya), Egypte (Canal de Suez), Espagne (Huelva).
Devenant du coup le plus grand navire pétrolier en service sous pavillon marocain, Challah incarne la nouvelle ambition du Royaume de se positionner dans les trafics stratégiques des hydrocarbures notamment avec la prochaine entrée en service du port de Nador West Med qui prévoit de traiter jusqu’à 25 millions de tonnes d’hydrocarbures, en plus des 3 millions de conteneurs.
D’une capacité de chargement de 9 000 tpl (tonnes de port en lourd), le tanker Challah, long de 117 mètres et large de 19 mètres, acheté pour 20 millions de dollars et destiné au cabotage, porte à six le nombre de pétroliers sous pavillon marocain, Tingis et Anfa de la même société Petrocab, Cedar et Argan de la Marocaine de Cabotage (Marcab), filiale du Groupe Derhem et le Balea armé par Sertego.
Ainsi, cette capacité additionnelle permettra au Royaume de disposer dorénavant d’une flotte stratégique de 38 596 tpl qui va couvrir une partie du transport des importations en hydrocarbures et contribuer à réduire la facture de fret maritime payée en devises et qui a explosé à 3,5 milliards de dollars ces dernières années.
Pour rappel, Petrocab est gérée aujourd’hui par un conseil d’administration avec pour actionnaires Vivo Energy Maroc (Shell), Libya Oil Maroc, Total Maroc, Société nationale des produits pétroliers (SNPP), Pétrole du Maghreb (Petrom), la Compagnie marocaine d’hydrocarbures (CMH).
Pour les professionnels du secteur, il est très réconfortant de souligner que l’acquisition du Challah célèbre une glorieuse épopée qui a commencé il y a près d’un siècle avec la mise en service en 1926 du premier tanker marocain Fedhala. Il convient aussi de noter que de 1926 à 2022, la Marine marchande du Maroc a exactement armé 50 tankers totalisant une jauge brute de 197.808 tonneaux.
