Pour autant, les résultats consolidés du groupe ont témoigné d’une bonne résistance dans ce contexte. En effet, l’exercice s’est traduit par une hausse du chiffre d’affaires (CA) de 32 %, à 19,7 milliards de dollars (Md$, 18,45 Md€) et de son EBIT en progression de 57 %, avec 11,2 Md$ (10,48 Md€).
Un déséquilibre entre l’offre et la demande
Sur l’activité de transport maritime de sa filiale Ocean, qui “entre dans un nouveau chapitre caractérisé par un déséquilibre entre l’offre et la demande”, le groupe a atteint un CA de 64,3 Md$ (60,21 Md€) contre 48,2 Md$ (45,13 – Md€) en 2021. Côté EBIT, la progression s’est terminée sur 29,14 Mds$ (27,29 Md€) en 2022 contre 17,96 Md$ (16,82 Md€) en 2021.
D’un point de vue opérationnel, les volumes chargés par l’armateur ont décliné de 8,9 % à 11 924 k FFE (13 089 k FFE). Pour expliquer cette régression, le groupe avance un affaiblissement de la demande, en particulier sur le fret au départ des marchés Asie-Europe et Transpacifique sur les trafics Est-Ouest mais aussi Nord-Sud.
Des taux de fret en hausse
Très chahuté par le contexte actuel, le taux moyen de fret a bondi de 39 % plafonnant à 4 628 USD/FFE (4 334 €) en 2022 contre 3 318 USD/FFE (30 106 €) en 2021. Sur les échanges Est-Ouest, les taux de fret progressé de 49 % en raison de pénuries de navires et de goulots d’étranglement tout au long de la chaîne d’approvisionnement.
Également en progression sur les échanges Nord-Sud, les taux de fret moyens ont pris 32 % à la suite de la hausse des tarifs des liaisons sur la côte est et la côte ouest de l’Amérique du Sud. Pour 2022, l’armateur revendique 2 368 navires, contre 2 393 navires en 2021, portant sa capacité à 4 285 k EVP, en hausse de 2,7 %.
Réduire la congestion
Sur le versant gestion de terminaux, sa filiale APM Terminals, qui opère sur 59 terminaux dans 31 pays, a fini l’exercice sur une hausse de son CA avec 4,4 Md$ (4,11 Md€) en 2022 contre 4 Md$ (3,74 Md€) l’année précédente. A l’inverse, l’EBIT est passé de 1,173 Mds$ (1,09 Md€) en 2021 à 832 Mds$ (778 Md€) l’an dernier.

Phillips – had a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However, the
budget increased for Folie À Deux to around $200 million.
The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews from both critics and audiences – and won the
Golden Lion during the 76th Venice International Film Festival.
Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his
portrayal of the Joker (Arthur Fleck) – and the film garnered an additional Academy Award for Best Original Score.
The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film Festival
last month in September, where it earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score
of 31% and a critic score of 32%
However, audiences have since taken to X after the movie released in theaters on Friday
– and shared their opinions on the sequel, which features musical sequences.

An NACC spokesperson confirmed the Commissioner, three deputy commissioners
and CEO are members of the Chairman’s lounge.
‘This does not impact the integrity of the Commission,’ the spokesman said.
‘Each of the statutory office holders has made appropriate declarations in regards
to Chairman’s lounge membership in the NACC Gifts and Benefits register.
‘Qantas is not a Commonwealth agency within the
Commission’s jurisdiction.’

and extra Chairman’s Lounge memberships received from

An insight into the type of service offered by the Chairman’s Lounges was
offered by a job ad posted on employment site Indeed for the one at Canberra Airport.
The ad, placed by hotel group Accor that Qantas contracts to run the lounges, stated
they were seeking ‘a highly motivated Food & Beverage Attendant to join our experienced and professional Front of House team’.
‘This role is based within the Chairman’s Lounge, a small
fine dining restaurant and lounge area that offers an a la carte menu designed by Neil
Perry Consulting,’ the ad states.

the ability to work a seven- day rotating roster.
The claims Albanese received 22 upgrades from economy
when booking Qantas flight by personally requesting them from Mr Joyce are made in a
new book The Chairman’s Lounge by former
Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston.
Aston alleged Mr Albanese directly contacted Mr Joyce while in his various parliamentary
jobs, which included Minister for Transport to ask for special
upgrades that only the CEO could dole out for himself or his family.
According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’ 11 of the 22 flights Mr Albanese
received upgrades for were ‘privately funded’ and included overseas trips to Rome, London, Los Angeles and Honolulu.
The book also revealed that as well as son Nathan having
a ‘plus one’ Chairman’s Lounge membership Mr Albanese’s partner Jodie Haydon did as well.
Mr Albanese insisted on Tuesday that all were ‘declared in the appropriate way’.

Joker: Folie À Deux director Todd Phillips ‘wanted nothing
to do with DC’ during making of the $200million flop film, a new report has claimed.
The hotly-anticipated sequel to the 2019 billion dollar Oscar-winning film – stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga and was considered
a surefire hit for Warner Bros Pictures – but was slammed by
critics and failed to ignite at the box office.
The sequel has been roundly criticized for being a musical and ‘ignoring’
the DC fanbase – with an agent familiar with Phillips’ process telling Variety he ‘wanted nothing to do with DC’ during the making of the film,
with DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran notably absent from the
film’s LA premiere afterparty last month.
A source said: ‘If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck, mentally ill guy in a downtrodden city, it makes maybe $150
[million] worldwide. Not a billion. People showed up because
that guy was Joker.’
In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the film does not include a DC Studios logo.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of 31% and
a critic score of 32%

them, this is kind of a Warner Bros. movie.’
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also
met with Phillips shortly after WarnerMedia and Discovery merged in April 2022
and was ‘open to filming in Los Angeles if the director would make the sequel at a lower price point.’
The studio wanted to film in London which would have cost
around 20 per cent less.
However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the budget remaining static.

It has only made $114million worldwide against its $200million budget.

However, Joker: Folie À Deux has been given a D rating on CinemaScore — the lowest score for a comic book movie.
Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier this
year and also received terrible reviews — holds a higher score with
a C+.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of 31%
and a critic score of 32%.
The sequel is projected to rake in less that $50 million at the domestic box
office during the entirety of opening weekend, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Weeks ago, the movie had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the number has since drastically dropped.
Joker (2019) notably opened with $96.2 million when the film first released in theaters – and eventually
landed a little over $1 billion in the global box office.
The first movie – which was also directed by Todd Phillips – had a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However, the budget
increased for Folie À Deux to around $200 million.
The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews from
both critics and audiences – and won the Golden Lion during
the 76th Venice International Film Festival.
Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of the Joker (Arthur Fleck) – and the film garnered an additional Academy Award for Best Original Score.
The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film Festival last month
in September, where it earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.

Financial Times critic Danny Leigh said although

also increasing the speed and frequency that disclosures of donations need to be made.
At present we have the absurd situation in which donations get made –
but you only find out the details of who has given what to whom
many months later, well after elections are won and lost.
In other words, what is broadly being proposed will result in much greater transparency and far less big money
being injected into campaigning by the wealthy.

the policy and warned the reform would ‘not stop the rot’

Anyone donating more than $1,000 to a political party, as opposed to $16,000 under the current rules, will
need to disclose having done so. And how much
they can donate will be capped.
Yet the Greens and Teals have quickly condemned the proposed new laws, labeling them a ‘stitch-up’, ‘outrageous’ and ‘a
rort, not a reform’.
They have lost their collective minds after finding out that Labor’s proposal just might secure the
support of the opposition.
I had to double check who was criticising what exactly before even starting
to write this column.
Because I had assumed – incorrectly – that these important transparency measures stamping out the influence of the wealthy must have been proposed by
the virtue-signalling Greens or the corruption-fighting Teals,
in a united crossbench effort to drag the major parties closer to
accountability.
More fool me.
The bill, designed to clean up a rotten system, is being put forward by Labor and is opposed by a growing cabal of crossbenchers.
It makes you wonder what they have to hide.
Put simply, the Greens and Teals doth protest too much on this
issue.
Labor is thought to be trying to muscle out major political

the likes of Simon Holmes à Court wields behind the scenes amongst the Teals.
And we know the Greens have taken massive donations from the wealthy in the past, contrary to their
irregular calls to tighten donations rules.
Now that tangible change has been proposed, these bastions of virtue are running a mile from reforms that will curtail dark art
of political donations.
The Labor government isn’t even seeking for
these transparency rules to take effect immediately, by the way.
It won’t be some sort of quick-paced power play before the next election designed to catch the
crossbench out.
They are aiming for implementation by 2026, giving everyone enough time to absorb and understand
the changes before preparing for them.
Don’t get me wrong, no deal has yet been done between Labor and the Coalition. I imagine the opposition want to go over the laws
with a fine tooth comb.
As they should – because it certainly isn’t beyond
Labor to include hidden one-party advantages in the proposed design which would create loopholes only the unions are capable
of taking advantage of, therefore disadvantaging the Coalition electorally in the
years to come.
But short of such baked-in trickiness scuttling a deal to get these proposed laws implemented, the crossbench should
offer their support, not cynical opposition, to
what is being advocated for.
They might even be able to offer something worthwhile that could be incorporated
in the package.
To not do so exposes their utter hypocrisy and blowhard false commentary
about being in politics to ‘clean things up’.

An invitation to lunch at Caviar Kaspia was, once upon a time,
an offer you simply didn’t refuse. Providing, of course, that the bill was on someone else.
Because caviar, smeared on blinis or piled high on baked potatoes,
sure didn’t come cheap. There may have been other things on the menu, but no one paid them much heed.
This was all about lashings of the black stuff.

Caviar Kaspia popped her final tin about two decades back.
And that site, hidden down a smart Mayfair mews, was taken over by
Gavin Rankin (who used to be the boss), and transformed into the brilliant Bellamy’s.
It prospers to this day. Kaspia, on the other hand, went quiet.
Until last year, when she reopened as a members’ club in another Mayfair backstreet.
But a £2,000 a year membership fee proved hard to swallow, meaning the doors were opened to the great unwashed.
Which is how we find ourselves sitting in a rather handsome – albeit near empty – dining room, lusciously lavish, under the stern gaze of a stern painting of a very stern man. The soft,
crepuscular gloom is broken up by the glare
of table lamps, indecorously bright, while a loud soundtrack of
indolent, indeterminate beats throbs in the background.
The whole place is scented with gilded ennui.
Our fellow diners are two young South Korean women of pale, luminescent
beauty, clad in diaphanous couture. They don’t speak, rather communicate entirely via camera phone.
Pose, click, check, filter, post. Immaculate waiters hover in the shadows.
We sip ice-cold vodka, and eat a £77 caviar and smoked-salmon Kaspia croque monsieur that
tastes far better than it ought to. Next door, a large
table fills with a glut of the noisily, glossily
confident.
We’re looked after by a wonderful French lady of such effervescent charm
and charisma that had she burst into an impromptu performance of ‘Willkommen’, we would have barely blinked.
Baked potatoes, skin as crisp as parchment, insides whipped savagely hard with
butter and sour cream, are a study in tuber art. A cool jet-black splodge of oscietra caviar,
gently saline, raises them to the sublime. Only the price, at just under £150 each, is ridiculous.
But there are few better dishes on earth. I’d eat this every
day if I could. But I can’t. Obviously. That’s the problem with caviar.
One taste is never enough.

ANGELA HARTNETT’S BEEF & VEAL MEATBALLS
Meatballs are super-quick to make for a weeknight supper and there are many ways to serve them (see tip).
The veal in these gives a lightness to the result, but you can swap it out for all beef,
or flavourful pork mince. This is a good way to use up
any day-old bread hanging around. The recipe is easy to double up on and freeze so you have a meal for an emergency.
SERVES 4
4 tbsp olive oil, plus extra for the onion
1 onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
400g tin chopped tomatoes
200g white bread (day old, if possible)
whole milk (enough to soak the bread)
500g beef mince
250g English veal mince
2 tbsp finely grated parmesan, plus extra to serve
4 anchovies, finely chopped
2 tbsp chopped flat-leaf parsley
salt and freshly ground black pepper
350g dried spaghetti, to serve (optional; see tip)
1 First make a tomato sauce. In a saucepan, heat a
dash of olive oil over a medium heat, then add half the chopped onion and half
the garlic, then sauté for 10 minutes to soften. Add the tomatoes and when the liquid starts
to bubble, reduce to a simmer and leave to cook, stirring occasionally (about 20 minutes, to
create a thick sauce), while you make the meatballs.
2 In a bowl, soak the bread in the milk until soft.
In another bowl, mix the beef, veal, parmesan, anchovies, half the parsley and the rest of the onions and garlic.
Then add the soaked bread, lightly squeezing
any excess milk from it first. Mix well and season with
salt and pepper. Mould the mixture into 12-14 meatballs.
3 Put the 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat.
When hot, add the meatballs, turning (for about 5 minutes)
to ensure they colour all over. If necessary, cook in batches so
they are not all squashed together, setting each batch aside on a
plate while you cook the remainder.
4 To finish, remove the meatballs from the
pan and set aside. Pour the tomato sauce into the frying
pan over a medium heat. Put the meatballs back into the pan for
a further 4-5 minutes to cook through. Sprinkle with the remaining parsley before serving.
TIP You can serve the meatballs as they come, or on top of spaghetti.
If you would prefer the latter, cook the pasta according to
the packet instructions until al dente. Drain it in a colander, reserving a
cupful of the cooking water to loosen the meatball sauce if necessary, and then transfer it back to the pan and
toss it with a little olive oil and butter. Put the spaghetti on a serving plate and top with the
meatballs and sauce. Finish with a drizzle of olive oil and a
sprinkle of parmesan.

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are asking voter to
choose between an immigration crackdown and reproductive rights
As their race for the US presidency comes down to the wire, each major candidate has
leaned heavily on a favorite theme — abortion rights for Democrat
Kamala Harris and border security for Republican Donald Trump.
In Arizona, their ideological duel has reached a white-hot peak, with
both topics the subject of fiercely debated ballot referendums.
And in this key southwestern state — where the billionaire
Trump lost to President Joe Biden in 2020 by a tiny margin of about 10,500 votes — every ballot
truly will count.
In the mid-sized city of Tucson, hundreds of volunteers in orange T-shirts were going door-to-door to try to persuade voters
to back a ballot measure to inscribe abortion rights
in the state constitution — and, while they’re at it, to vote for Vice President Harris.
To Grace Ireland, a 26-year-old activist, the abortion restrictions imposed by several Republican-controlled
states amount to “a public health crisis that Donald Trump and the Republicans have created.”
She added, “Democrats and Kamala Harris are trying to push us forward and protect women’s health care and protect our democracy and protect all people.”

Since 2022, when the US Supreme Court ended the constitutional
protection of federal abortion rights, Ireland, a registered nurse,
has worked in several states where abortion is banned or severely limited.
Those restrictions have had sometimes disastrous consequences for women having problem pregnancies or carrying nonviable fetuses when doctors refuse to treat them.
“Women are going septic and dying because they cannot receive the care that they need,”
she told AFP.
– ‘Abortion is murder’ –
As Ireland carries her message to potential voters, she noted, particularly
to young people who may be less likely to vote, that it
was Donald Trump who appointed the three justices who
tipped the Supreme Court against abortion rights.

“It’s important to reiterate that Donald Trump and these abortion bans are one and the same,” Ireland said.
But in Tucson there is little unanimity among young voters.
“I do think that abortion is murder,” said Pedro Lopez, a 20-year-old college student.
“There are cases of incest or rape” that merit exceptions, he
conceded, “but that’s very small.”
He also worries about the flow of undocumented migrants that have entered the country from Mexico
during the Biden-Harris administration.
“People that are entering the United States illegally… should be sent back to where they came from,” he
said.
“My grandparents migrated from Mexico to the United States, and they did it the right way.”
So he plans not only to vote for Trump, but to back the proposal to let local
law enforcement detain, arrest and prosecute anyone suspected of
having entered the country illegally — powers normally reserved to the border police
who work for the federal government.
“I know people that work for the Border Patrol, and they’re really upset because this current administration has really tied their hands up. They’re not really able to do anything,” Lopez said.
– Mixed impact –
The major political parties see the competing referendums as offering
an opportunity to mobilize more people to vote — on ballot questions at the
very heart of the two presidential campaigns.

But the referendums may not have the clear impact on the race for the White
House that activists hope.
Polls show Trump and Harris running neck-and-neck in Arizona,
with the Republican holding a very narrow lead.
Both ballot questions, meantime, have drawn strong support and both appear likely to pass.
So the abortion issue may not be “helping Democrats in the way that they would hope,” said
Jenny Brian, a professor of bioethics at Arizona State University.
Many Republican women will vote both to protect
abortion rights and to bring Trump back to the White House, Brian said.
Though abortion is sometimes framed as a Democrat vs.
Republican issue, the Republican Party includes “a broad spectrum of views on the topic,” an issue that also raises conservatives’ concerns
about “government interference,” she added.
The same dynamic applies to immigration, with the
tougher language on the Arizona ballot question finding support not just among
Trump Republicans but also “moderates and even many Democrats,” said John Kavanagh, a Republican and an Arizona state senator.
The 74-year-old Kavanagh is unimpressed by Harris’s recent toughening on migration, specifically her promise to maintain the partial closing of the border Biden ordered
in recent months.
The vice president, Kavanagh said, is “running away faster from her open-border policy than an illegal immigrant that runs away from the Border Patrol.”

In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the film does not include a
DC Studios logo.
A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the end of
the Joker sequel, while Phillips declined to comment to the publication.
Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips,
DC and Warner- with claims that Michael DeLuca, Chairperson of Warner Bros.
Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to say
no to Phillips due to his huge past successes.
It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca
and Abdy rather than Gunn and Safran – who took control
of DC two months before production began on Joker 2 in December 2022.
Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut screening for the studio but Phillips fueled rift speculation when he told a reporter: ‘With all due respect to them, this is kind of a
Warner Bros. movie.’

out by the airline in what has been called ‘Australia’s most exclusive
club’.
Mr Bandt was challenged on Monday by ABC Radio National stand-in host Steve
Cannane that he was ‘enjoying free hospitality from a company that has illegally sacked hundreds of workers’.
Mr Bandt replied: ‘And I’ll declare that and people can make their own judgement about what they think about
that.’
Cannane was referring to the Federal Court’s ruling that Qantas illegally sacked 1,700 workers at the start of the Covid pandemic in a case brought by Transport Workers Union.
Commenting on the sacking in June of 2020, Mr Bandt called it
a ‘devastating day for thousands of Qantas workers & their families’ in a Facebook post.
‘We’re thinking of you,’ he wrote.
Cannane challenged Mr Bandt further saying: ‘You don’t think you should be a little purer on this and just not
take their (Qantas’s) hospitality?’
Mr Bandt said he always made declarations about matters such as this and argued that the party’s
policies to tax big corporations heavily show the perks were not impacting the Greens.

The Greens are licking their electoral wounds after the Queensland state poll, where they are battling to hold onto their two seats after
stating they aimed to triple their representation in parliament.
With 72 per cent of the vote counted they appear to have retained the Brisbane
seat of Maiwar but suffered a 4.6 per cent swing to the ALP.
However, they remain behind South Brisbane, which has seen a massive
12.4 per cent swing to Labor with 64 per cent of votes counted.

A billionaire couple have won the right to remove a single tree from the driveway of
their lavish $20million mansion after being blocked by their
local council.
Paul Holmes a Court, the son of Australia’s first billionaire Robert
Holmes a Court, and his wife Zara had been at loggerheads with their local council over a request to remove
a single peppermint tree growing in the middle of their
driveway.
The couple bought the four-bedroom mansion in the affluent,
tree-lined suburb overlooking Perth’s Freshwater Bay for $20.1million in August.
They wanted to remove the tree but the Shire of Peppermint Grove refused
the request on the grounds the tree was not dead
or deceased.
‘We are very lucky to live here, but I have to say that
the tree placement is unusual,’ Ms Holmes a Court previously told a council meeting.
‘I’m quite a reasonable and rational person, but a tree in the middle of the driveway makes
it quite tricky to reverse out.’
The couple enjoyed a breakthrough at a council meeting last week after an alternative motion was unanimously passed
that allowed the tree to be removed on the condition they
paid a $2,500 bond before any work was done on the driveway.
They will also need to plant two replacement trees on their property.

Ms Holmes a Court previously claimed the tree’s odd placement also made it difficult to spot cars
turning the corner at a nearby intersection with Bay View
Terrace.
After the motion to remove the tree was passed at the meeting, councillor Douglas Jackson said it was a ‘good outcome’.
‘I think it meets both the owners’ wants, or expectation, but also matches the
council’s needs at the same time by ensuring that there is tree
cover on the verge of that property,’ he said.
Peppermint Grove is hoping to implement a policy that would even make it an offence to damage or remove any mature trees on private property without council
approval.
Last month, WA Planning Minister John Carey said he hoped the Shire of Peppermint Grove
would ‘take a common sense approach’ to the issue.
‘This is part of the challenge that we do have with local government.
I’ve always been on the record that we need local governments to take a common sense approach
to issues,’ Mr Carey told the West Australian.
‘And I understand people are passionate about trees.
But ultimately, we do need local governments to assess the situation and find pragmatic outcomes.’
According to the online listing for the four-bedroom, four-bathroom
mansion – which is built on a corner block along the banks of the Swan River –
the sprawling Federation-style property was built in around 1904.

Russell Crowe has argued that the rise of independent politicians are better representing
the views of everyday Australians, unlike the two-party-dominated system in the United States.
The Oscar-winning actor made the claim in response to podcast
host Joe Rogan complaining that Americans were ‘completely trapped in the
two-party system’.
‘We have the same sort of situation, but we have a very interesting thing that’s happening in Australia at
the moment, which is the rise of independents,’ Crowe countered.
‘The main parties have to deal with the fact those
independents have to bring a non-party-line series of points to the argument.
‘And it’s working well. It’s working for us. In that it’s making both of the main parties re-examine who they
are and what they stand for.
Rogan mused ‘we could use that here, for sure’, highlighting how
US politics is completely dominated by the Democrat and Republican parties.
There are other parties, including the Green, Libertarian, and Reform parties, but these receive vanishingly few votes
in comparison.
Independent candidates can also stand and have been known to perform well on occasion.

The former New York property developer had even considered
running for president in the 2000 election under the banner of
that movement – formed by former third-party presidential candidate Ross Perot,

Perot was the most popular minority party candidate since former Republican president Teddy Roosevelt in 1912 ran as the Bull Moose Party candidate – carrying
six states including California and coming second ahead of Republican William Taft.

Zali Steggall became the first teal independent to achieve huge success when she ousted former prime minister Tony Abbott in his seat in Sydney’s northern beaches at the 2019 election.
In similar fashion, Monique Ryan won the traditionally Liberal seat from former treasurer Josh Frydenberg at the 2022 election.
She was one of seven teals elected, swelling the lower house
crossbench to 16, with this tally including the four Greens, three conservative independents and progressives Andrew
Wilkie and Helen Haines.
Crowe’s three-hour conversation with Rogan, which was first aired in August, has recently resurfaced in teal social media adverts.
They are being pushed by Melbourne philanthropist Simon Holmes à Court, who founded Climate 200, which has given campaign funding to some teal candidates.

LONDON, Sept 28 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International (PMI) on Thursday
signalled a slower than anticipated U.S. roll out of its IQOS heated tobacco device,
a choice analysts said was positive for its competitors in the short term.
The New York-listed Marlboro maker also said it aims for more than two thirds of its net revenues to come from “smoke-free” products by 2030, up from 50% in 2025,

Investors have been closely watching IQOS’ entry into the U.S., the world’s largest market for nicotine products, and
had been expecting it from May 2024 next year. Reuters reported on Wednesday that PMI is hiring
lobbyists across a host of key U.S. states ahead of the launch.
Chief Executive Jacek Olczak said IQOS would launch
in four cities in two unnamed U.S. states from 2024,
but a national launch would only come after PMI receives approval to sell
the latest version, known as IQOS ILUMA.
The company was planning to apply for approval
in October and expected it from 2025, he continued.
“We need to warm up the tyres,” he said of the initial launch,
which would help PMI fine tune its approach.
A national roll-out of ILUMA would follow but in phases, he
continued, adding launching in 10 states in the first year would make sense.
Meaningful traction for PMI’s heated tobacco products in the U.S.
“now looks delayed until ILUMA,” Owen Bennett, equity analyst at Jefferies, said in a
note, adding this was a positive for PMI’s rivals.
Olczak also signalled that PMI’s push into non-nicotine products was no longer a priority.
It recently scrapped an ambition for $1 billion in net revenues
to come from sales of such products by 2025.
Instead, PMI will focus its resources on IQOS and nicotine pouch brand ZYN, Olczak said, adding it had been too optimistic around acceptance of big tobacco
companies operating outside of nicotine.
PMI also announced updated medium-term targets including for revenue and earnings
per share, and ambitious volume targets for IQOS and ZYN.
ZYN and other oral nicotine products in the U.S. would help drive an expected $2 billion in revenues there in 2024, even before IQOS ILUMA, executives
said.

It was a dream come true for Beyonce’s No. 1 fan… comedian Kevin Hart.
On Tuesday, celebrities and music lovers flocked to the Staples Center to see the 32-year-old diva on the Los Angeles date of her Mrs.
Carter World Tour.
During the show, Hart caught the attention of former frontwoman of Destiny’s Child as
he enthusiastically responded to her performance while standing in the front row.

Former Dancing with the Stars competitor and singer Christina Milian stood next to Hart, looking on as 33-year-old star went crazy for the diva.
The songstress laughed at Hart’s antics, smiling broadly as the two shared a momentary giggle.
