La liaison permet à la compagnie spécialisée dans le transport de conteneurs de poursuivre son expansion en Afrique, faisant de Maputo la porte d’entrée de son réseau dans la partie Est du continent.
« Nous connectons une nouvelle destination à notre réseau mondial et offrons une alternative compétitive pour les importations de l’Afrique du Sud via ce nouveau corridor. Nous visons à simplifier notre réseau, en particulier avec les défis actuels du marché. En ne faisant escale que dans quelques ports stratégiques, nous facilitons la planification et accélérons le temps de transport », explique Jan Willem De Braal, directeur principal de Trade Management Africa, une des divisions de Hapag-Lloyd.
Actuellement 5ème armateur mondial, Hapag-Lloyd dans sa campagne de conquête du marché africain, procède parfois au rachat de compagnies de services maritimes et logistiques qui ont déjà un ancrage dans quelques régions stratégiques du continent.
Après l’absorption de NileDutch fin 2021, le transporteur a signé le 10 mars passé un accord-cadre portant sur le rachat de Deutsche Afrika-Linien afin de mieux se positionner en Afrique australe.
