Il faut c’abords souligner que CNOOC est déjà présente au Gabon où elle est déjà active actuellement sur 2 blocs en eau profonde (BC9 et BC10). Bon nombre d’investisseurs se sont ont manifesté de l’intérêt pour le bassin sédimentaire gabonais, dont la société américaine Apache qui souhaite y investir également.
Le Gabon a présenté ses blocs pétroliers actuellement en vente durant l’Africa Oil Week (Semaine du pétrole africain) qui s’est tenue à Cape Town en Afrique du Sud du 3 au 7 octobre 2022. Plusieurs investisseurs de divers pays ont manifesté leur intérêt, notamment la société pétrolière China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC).
Celle-ci qui est déjà présente au Gabon, a décidé de s’acquérir de 6 nouveaux blocs et souhaite boucler les accords avant décembre 2022, informe le ministère du Pétrole.
Edgard Mbina Kombila, Directeur général des hydrocarbures a affirmé que « les dirigeants de CNOOC « sollicitent en ce moment 6 nouveaux blocs qu’ils souhaitent signer avant le mois de décembre, plus précisément avant le forage de leur prochain puits. Nous les avons rassurés que le Gabon est actuellement ouvert pour la signature de tous les contrats pétroliers ».
De ce fait, poursuit-il, « j’ai instruit les équipes de travailler rapidement afin que nous nous retrouvions d’ici le 15 octobre pour commencer à discuter des termes économiques et fiscaux avec cette société qui a été très agressive en termes de recherche pétrolière. Donc, comme elle, nous souhaitons également signer ces 6 contrats avant la fin du mois de novembre ».
Le Nouveau Gabon renseigne que c’est depuis novembre 2018 que l’État gabonais a lancé la campagne de mise aux enchères de 35 blocs pétroliers maritimes, sous forme d’appel d’offres dont 23 en offshore profond et 12 en offshore conventionnel.
« Les enchères avaient entre autres pour but de lutter contre le déclin de la production à long terme, et de renouveler les réserves du pays par l’intensification de l’exploration » Selon le ministère du Pétrole.
