XPO Logistics puts its resources and expertise at the service of food bank distribution.
Les Banques alimentaires, a major national food aid network, has entered into a partnership with service provider XPO Logistics for the transportation of food to combat food insecurity and waste in France.
With food inflation set to rise by 20% over the next two years, and the number of beneficiaries set to increase by 34% between 2020 and 2023, the food banks need more logistical resources to serve the 5.5 million French people who depend on food aid.
XPO will provide its expertise, drivers, fleet of vehicles and distribution network. We are delighted to enter into this new logistics partnership with a major player in the field, with a strong presence throughout France," says Jean Cottave, Chairman of the Banques alimentaires.
Transport is a strategic sector in the operation of the Food Banks. This partnership will enable us to benefit from a quality service and a high level of responsiveness.
224 million meals distributed every year
Recognized as a public utility since February 22, 2023, the Fédération française des Banques alimentaires brings together 79 food banks and 31 branches across mainland France and the French overseas territories. It collects almost 123,000 tonnes of produce a year, equivalent to 224 million meals, from the food industry, farmers, supermarkets and the general public.
Thanks to more than 7,000 volunteers and 500 employees, the network supports 2.4 million people in need of food through 6,029 partner associations, CCAS and social grocery stores.
