In France, new car registrations remained at an exceptionally low level in 2022. And this is the third consecutive year.
According to figures published by the Automotive Platform (PFA), representing the French automotive industry, sales show a decline of 7,83%. Even though the 2021 and 2020 vintages were already considered catastrophic.
With only 1.529.035 passenger cars sold, the market has reached the same level as in the 1970s. For new light commercial vehicles, the 348.072 registrations show a drop of 19,55%.
Stellantis and Renault
This decline is due to persistent production difficulties, with a continuing shortage of semiconductors. The war in Ukraine has also been very penalizing for German brands, which have suppliers on site. The multiple lockdowns in China have also disrupted the supply chain.
In the PFA ranking, Stellantis maintained first place in 2022, with 478.040 passenger cars, even with -14,7% of sales, ahead of the Renault group (369.432 units), with a decrease of only -6,7% due to the very good performance of Dacia.
Next come Volkswagen (195.183), Toyota (103.524), Hyundai (93.330), Daimler (49.318), Ford (47.095), Tesla (29) and Suzuki (199).
