Mohammed VI, King of Morocco, was visiting the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It has been several years since the Moroccan sovereign made an official visit abroad, but he did not make the trip in vain. Numerous economic cooperation agreements were signed in the UAE.

A triumphant parade by the air patrol, a procession escorted by prestigious horsemen... The welcome given to Mohammed VI by his Emirati counterpart Mohammed ben Zayed was on a par with the agreements and promises of agreements signed by the two men in Abu Dhabi.

Accompanied by a large delegation of ministers, advisors and officials, the Moroccan sovereign left with the promise of major economic cooperation and investment from the Emirates across a wide swathe of the kingdom's economy.

Rail transport, with priority given to the creation of a TGV line from Kénitra to Marrakech, airport developments such as Casablanca and Dakhla in the Western Sahara, as well as ports in Nador and Dakhla.

The memorandum of understanding also covers real estate, tourism, energy - a huge potential market in Morocco - as well as education, food security, access to water, etc.

These announcements come at a time when Morocco has made the kingdom's economic development its priority between now and 2030, the year of the football World Cup organised jointly with Spain and Portugal. Emirati money is therefore needed to meet this demanding timetable.
