French shipping line CMA CGM announced on June 11 that it was increasing its capacity between Asia and Europe by 25% in July and August “to meet the sudden rise in demand”.
This “exceptional seasonal service”, dubbed the “French Peak Service”, will involve the departure of seven additional ships with a capacity of 7,000 containers.
They will be “deployed between June 30 and early September, with a departure every two weeks from China, alternating between northern Europe (Le Havre, Antwerp) and the Mediterranean (Fos-sur-Mer, Malta)”, explains the French group.
After a difficult year in 2023, the world's third-largest ocean carrier, also active in logistics, recorded a rebound in business in the first quarter thanks to “more dynamic than expected” world trade.
The volume of goods transported increased by 11.7% compared with the first three months of 2023 and by 2.1% compared with the last quarter of 2023.
