The Egyptian port of Ain Sokhna experienced a landmark week with three major maritime operations. By welcoming vessels specializing in gas, minerals, and cruises, DP World affirms its commitment to positioning Sokhna as an integrated logistics hub serving regional competitiveness.
The arrival of the Energos Eskimo, a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) operated by New Fortress Energy, was a strategic milestone. Arriving for specialized technical work, including the modification of its high-pressure gas manifold, the unit is preparing to inject natural gas into the Egyptian grid via the port of SUMED. This operation illustrates Sokhna's growing capacity to manage complex energy flows in a context of securing supplies.
At the same time, the port welcomed the Berge Kuju, a 300-meter-long bulk carrier from Brazil. On board was 180.008 tons of iron ore destined for Ezz Steel—the largest cargo ever received at an Egyptian port.
Thanks to its deep-water quays and high-capacity mobile port cranes, the terminal ensured rapid unloading, confirming its place in supporting the steel industry and the import of massive bulk cargo.
The tourism sector is not far behind. The cruise ship Aroya, chartered by Cruise Saudi, made its second scheduled stopover in Sokhna, disembarking 2.300 passengers in smooth conditions. This increase in tourist flows adds to the port's logistics offering, consolidating its role in passenger transport value chains and boosting the local economy.
DP World intends to capitalize on this performance by continuing its investments. The $80 million Sokhna Logistics Park, currently nearing completion, will strengthen the port's multimodal integration. With its expanding infrastructure and diversified logistics offering, Sokhna is establishing itself as a key driver for regional and intercontinental trade.
