Morocco is set to become a hub for electric vehicle manufacturing as it embarks on a sustainable transportation revolution, according to a new study from a U.S. think tank.
The American think tank Middle East Institute recently published a new study entitled “Morocco's Green Mobility Revolution: The Geoeconomic Factors Driving Its Rise as a Manufacturing Hub for Electric Vehicles”.
He says Morocco's rise as a global hub for electric vehicle manufacturing is essential not only for the resilience of the Western supply chain, but also to promote decarbonized mobility to combat climate change.
"The focus on shortening supply chains to ensure stability in European consumer markets has already fueled the rapid advancement of Morocco's automotive manufacturing sector and its development of more advanced manufacturing processes," notes the American think tank, stressing that the mineral reserves for batteries that Morocco now has are accelerating its entry into the manufacturing of electric vehicles.
“With vast solar and wind energy resources, as well as large-scale infrastructure already in place to utilize them, Morocco has the potential to lead a green mobility revolution by fueling the production of electric vehicles using renewable energy,” the study details.
The Middle East Institute also returned to statements by Industry Minister Ryad Mezzour. He had declared on July 21 that Morocco was considering signing a $2 billion agreement with EV battery manufacturers before the end of this year to set up a local gigafactory for production.
“Producing batteries for electric vehicles on such a scale would be appropriate for Morocco’s impressive automotive manufacturing ecosystem, which already has the capacity to produce more than 700 vehicles per year,” the study further underlines.
And he concluded: “The key to Morocco’s rise as a giant in green mobility manufacturing will be the expansion of its automotive ecosystem to include local manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries, which represent 30 to 40% of the cost of an electric vehicle on average.”
Your point of view caught my eye and was very interesting. Thank you. I have a question for you.
