Morocco is continuing the modernization of its railway infrastructure with an investment of 430 million euros. This investment mainly concerns the extension of the High Speed Line (LGV).

Morocco has been increasing its efforts in modernizing its railway infrastructure for several years. The aim is to support the country's economic development through connectivity. The train is considered a central pillar by Morocco. This is demonstrated by the latest project concerning the extension of the High Speed Line (LGV) between Kenitra and Marrakech, a flagship project aimed at streamlining mobility and improving competitiveness.

Morocco recently awarded three contracts worth an estimated €430 million to Colas Rail and Colas Projects (subsidiaries of the French group Colas) as part of this expansion. These two companies will design and build the railway tracks, catenaries and substations for the northern lot. In addition, the company will be responsible for the second lot of superstructure and civil engineering works, which are essential elements for the implementation of the LGV infrastructure.

The aim of the extension to Marrakech is to significantly reduce travel times and strengthen integration between the north and south of the country. This strategic project is part of a broader infrastructure modernization plan, alongside investments in highways and ports. Morocco intends to make rail a driver of development and attractiveness for investment by facilitating travel and economic exchanges.

Beyond the extension of the LGV, Morocco aims to develop its rail network. The objective is to achieve more efficient, sustainable and accessible transit in order to promote the country's economic growth. With its launch scheduled for 2028, the LGV Kenitra-Marrakech represents a major step forward in this dynamic, confirming the kingdom's desire to become a giant of rail transport in Africa.
