Established in Denain for a year, Maersk will expand its logistics warehouse from 75.000 to 100.000 m² to store Amazon parcels.
Barely a year after opening its first logistics site in France, in Denain (Nord), Maersk has announced a 25.000 m² extension, bringing the total surface area to 100.000 m² by September 2025. This building, developed by GLP, is entirely dedicated to Amazon, a long-standing customer of the Danish group in the United States and Asia. "What we wanted to demonstrate with this project is that we are capable of replicating a successful activity in any country," said Abdoulaye Ba, President of Maersk Contract Logistics France.
The warehouse stores hundreds of thousands of packages destined for redistribution to Amazon centers in France and Europe. It is part of a dense regional network of Amazon infrastructure, particularly in Hauts-de-France, where the American group operates seven logistics sites. Located near the northern ports and a robust motorway network, Denain thus serves as a strategic hub for Amazon's Northern European replenishment.
The activity there is intense: "We're averaging 150.000 incoming parcels and 160.000 outgoing parcels a week. During seasonal peaks, these figures increase by a factor of 2,5.", says Nadia Dumas-Rharrouz, site director. Up to 400.000 packages pass through each week, with 100 to 250 trucks entering and leaving each day. The packages are handled in wire-guided aisles using Jungheinrich forklifts, optimizing space and safety.
With approximately 300 employees on a regular basis, and up to 500 at peak times, the Denain site is now Maersk's largest contract logistics platform in Europe. Around forty warehouses are already operational across the continent. "Unlike some competitors who started with acquisitions, we are banking on organic growth to solidify our assets," concludes Abdoulaye Ba.
