Shipping giant MSC will launch a new direct service between South Africa and the US East Coast in October.
The Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) announced on May 28, 2025, the establishment of a new direct shipping line between South Africa and the East Coast of the United States. This enhanced connection will enter service in October 2025 and aims to facilitate transatlantic trade.
Eight ships will operate this standalone service, four of which will be added to the existing fleet. MSC guarantees stable weekly connections, thus remaining the only operator to offer a direct connection between these two regions.
This initiative is part of MSC's expansion strategy on the African continent. Present in more than 45 African countries, the company is expanding its logistics and commercial services to better meet the needs of local stakeholders.
MSC also continues to invest in strategic infrastructure in Africa. Its container terminal in Lomé, Togo, plays a central role in West Africa, connecting coastal and landlocked countries to markets in Asia, Europe, and the Americas. These investments support the continent's integration into global trade, particularly through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
