GEODIS continues the development of modal shift solutions with the commissioning of a new platform dedicated to combined rail-road transport. The new site, operational since September, is located in Puyoo in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
In order to offer its customers an alternative to road transport, GEODIS has installed a new combined rail-road transport platform in Puyoo (64). This installation will enable a 50% reduction in pre- and post-road transport journeys.
GEODIS invested nearly €1 million in the work to establish the new site on facilities that had been unused for over twenty years. The new platform has two 160m lanes.
GEODIS will operate 4 rotations per week (i.e. 2 round trips) and offers a loading capacity of 64 UTI per week between Puyoo and Lavera.
"Our ambition is to continue the development of multimodal by offering rail-road solutions in France and Europe. Thanks to this new platform, our traffic should increase from 500 containers transported in 2020 to around 3 containers per year by 000," explains Marc Vollet, Director of Operations and Multimodal of GEODIS's European Road Network activity.
