According to the guidelines presented at the budget conferences on November 8, the Cameroonian Ministry of Public Works intends to dedicate the majority of its resources in 2026 to the construction and maintenance of the road network. More than 650 kilometers of paved roads and 1300 meters of engineering structures are planned, demonstrating the government's commitment to strengthening national connectivity.

The Ministry of Public Works plans to allocate more than 92% from its budget to the construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of roads across the country. This funding covers both the continuation of ongoing projects and the launch of new projects under the Public Investment Program.

The authorities also want to increase the share of resources transferred to municipalities to consolidate the maintenance of the local network and improve mobility in rural and urban areas.

The budget conferences held with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economy helped to define the priorities for the 2026 fiscal year. Discussions focused on the allocation of funds, the digitalization of project monitoring, and transparency in the management of public funds.

This approach is in line with ongoing budgetary reforms, including the introduction of programme-based budgeting aimed at strengthening the performance and traceability of expenditures.

Prior to this, the Ministry of Public Works (Mintp) had already adjusted its allocations for the maintenance of the municipal road network. The funds allocated to this item were increased by nearly 4,6 billion FCFA, representing a rise of more than 38% compared to 2025.

This budget increase will notably allow for the maintenance of 2000 km of unpaved roads, nearly a quarter of which will be treated with stabilizing agents. This approach reflects a commitment to balancing investment between major highways and local infrastructure with a significant socio-economic impact.
