La poussée démographique à Abidjan et l’émergence de périphéries dont les populations ont leurs activités concentrées dans la métropole, obligent à modifier les plans urbains. Une remodélisation qui touche en grande partie les routes, dans l’objectif d’améliorer la mobilité urbaine et interurbaine.
Le Premier ministre ivoirien Patrick Achi, a lancé officiellement hier mercredi 9 novembre, les travaux d’aménagement du carrefour Akwaba qui comprennent la construction d’un échangeur à 5 branches.
Les travaux évalués à 26 milliards FCFA (39,4 millions USD) sont financés par la Banque mondiale et confiés à l’entreprise chinoise CHEC. Le délai d’exécution du projet est de 30 mois.
Le projet constitue un volet du schéma directeur d’urbanisme du Grand Abidjan, un vaste plan d’urbanisation qui couvre le district d’Abidjan ainsi que ses six communes périphériques.
Le carrefour Akwaba constitue un point de jonction important des principales routes qui desservent Abidjan. La réalisation des infrastructures prévues vise entre autres à rendre plus fluide le trafic sur ses artères, et améliorer l’accessibilité de la zone portuaire.
