Les derniers chiffres en sont une parfaite illustration : en effet, du 1er au 10 mai, les expéditions sont estimées à environ 132 000 tonnes, dont 121 de maïs, sept d’orge et quatre de blé. Mais les échanges se déroulent au rythme imposé par la guerre : à noter que l’Ukraine exporte une moyenne de 1 million de tonnes par mois, alors qu’en temps normal il en fait six.
L’explication est quasiment logistique : les ports ukrainiens de la mer Noire sont devenus délicates. Le trafic passe aujourd’hui essentiellement par le port de Constanta, en Roumanie. Les céréales y arrivent par train, camion ou par barge via les ports du Danube de l’extrême sud-ouest de l’Ukraine.
Un convoi d’une cinquantaine de trains est nécessaire pour remplir un navire de 70 000 tonnes, les opérations durent longtemps et le trafic est saturé dans le port roumain.
Des problèmes techniques relevés lors des exportations par train
Parmi les autres options, il y a également les ports de la mer Baltique. Notamment ceux de Pologne et de Lituanie. Toutefois, pour transiter par ces pays, l’obstacle est technique : l’écartement des rails n’y est pas le même qu’en Ukraine, à cet effet, il faut déplacer les chargements dans des camions ou des wagons homologués, ou bien remplacer les essieux de ceux qui ne le sont pas.
