Annoncée depuis 2014, la mise en œuvre d’un réseau BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) à Douala, la capitale économique du Cameroun, devrait finalement démarrer cette année.
Le projet de construction d’un réseau BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) devrait être lancé cette année, grâce à un financement de la Banque mondiale, selon le maire de la ville, Roger Mbassa Ndine.
C’est dans le sillage de la mise en œuvre de ce projet qu’une délégation de la Communauté urbaine de Douala (CUD) a effectué, les 14 et 15 juin derniers au Sénégal, une visite pour échanger avec le Conseil exécutif des transports urbains de Dakar (Cetud) sur son expérience de 25 ans de gouvernance de la mobilité urbaine, et le projet BRT en particulier.
Les membres de ladite délégation, conduite par Dr Geremie Solle, 1er adjoint au maire de la ville de Douala, ont ainsi discuté avec leurs homologues sur les enjeux du projet BRT, l’état d’avancement des travaux, le pilotage des aspects environnementaux et sociaux, ainsi que les innovations portées par ce projet et les perspectives pour une mobilité urbaine durable, rapporte le Cetud sur son site Internet.
La délégation a également visité le Train express régional (TER), une ligne de chemin de fer électrique inaugurée en fin d’année dernière et qui relie la ville de Dakar à Diamniadio sur un tronçon de 35 km.
La visite du TER a été organisée pour « montrer les perspectives d’intégration physique et tarifaire », précise l’autorité organisatrice des transports urbains de Dakar.
« Le Sénégal nous offre déjà la possibilité d’avoir une vie du réel de ce que nous sommes en train d’imaginer. Nous avons été très impressionnés non seulement par le projet BRT, mais toute la philosophie que la ville de Dakar met en œuvre pour la mobilité urbaine », a déclaré Dr Geremie Solle sur une chaîne locale sénégalaise.
La CUD compte ainsi s’inspirer de l’expérience sénégalaise pour mener à bien son projet de bus rapide qui devrait permettre d’améliorer la mobilité urbaine à Douala, métropole peuplée de plus de 3,5 millions d’habitants, confrontée aux embouteillages.
Franck Taillandier, spécialiste transport/TTL du projet BRT, affirme que « le Sénégal est un des précurseurs en matière de mise en œuvre de transports collectifs de masse innovants » en Afrique.
