Avec ses plus de 8 millions d’habitants, Luanda a besoin de réduire la pression sur son réseau routier par le développement du transport ferroviaire. Les autorités pilotant cette transition modale multiplient depuis peu les investissements pour y arriver.
Trois locomotives de fabrication chinoise ont été livrées à l’Angola lundi dernier. Elles constituent la dernière vague de livraison d’un carnet de commandes de 10 unités, adressé au groupe China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC).
Ces unités ferroviaires acquises au profit de Caminho de ferro de Luanda E.P (CFL), l’exploitant de la ligne ferroviaire de Luanda à Malanje, sont composées chacune de 4 voitures d’une capacité de 696 passagers.
Selon Alberto Quengue, administrateur des opérations de l’Agence nationale des transports routiers (ANTT), ces nouveaux trains complèteront une flotte de 4 déployée sur Luanda. 3 autres sont déjà utilisés à Benguela, située à 430 km au sud de la capitale.
Les nouvelles locomotives vont augmenter les capacités opérationnelles de CFL, et contribuer à améliorer la mobilité urbaine dans Luanda.
Elles raccorderont également le centre-ville au nouvel aéroport international António Agostinho Neto en construction, dont les travaux devraient s’achever au premier trimestre 2023 selon les autorités.
