Déjà adjudicataire de certains lots du programme d’extension du métro du Caire, le français Alstom a aussi la confiance des autorités égyptiennes pour moderniser le système ferroviaire en pleine reconstitution du pays.
La multinationale française Alstom a annoncé à l’occasion de la COP27, la signature d’un accord-cadre avec l’Autorité nationale égyptienne des tunnels (NAT) pour développer le premier projet de métro sans conducteur dans le pays.
Le projet est associé au développement de la ligne 6 du métro du Caire, dont la conception, la construction et l’entretien lui sont confiés.
La ligne est actuellement la dernière extension prévue pour ce métro construit depuis 1987. Elle s’étendra sur 35 km et traversera du nord au sud les quartiers de Shubra El-Kheima et New Maadi dans le Grand Caire, se terminant au début de la route Ain El-Sokhna – Al-Khosos. Cette section devrait comprendre 27 stations dont 12 souterraines, et pourrait accueillir environ un demi-million de passagers.
La construction de cette ligne contribuera selon Alstom, à réduire la congestion sur la ligne 1 du métro du Caire et élargira l’offre de transport pour ceux qui se déplacent à travers la ville.
Le projet intègre aussi les exigences actuelles en matière de durabilité, et sa mise en œuvre permettra de réduire les émissions de CO2 dans les transports à travers la capitale.
