Sous la supervision de Son Excellence Monsieur Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, Président de la République, Le Ministère du Pétrole, des Mines et de l’Energie a organisé le mardi, 24 mai 2022 une rencontre de haut niveau sur les stratégies Energie/Mines.
L’évènement, auquel ont pris part les CEOs des compagnies internationales opérantes en Mauritanie, a eu pour objectif l’échange approfondi avec les acteurs des secteurs privé et public et des experts nationaux et internationaux sur la vision stratégique, à long terme, pour le développement des secteurs de l’Energie et des Mines en Mauritanie.
S’exprimant pour l’occasion, le Ministre du Pétrole, des Mines et de l’Energie M. Abdessalam Mohamed SALEH a passé en revue la stratégie nationale de développement de l’énergie, qui s’articule autour des 3 objectifs : (i) Renforcer la sécurité énergétique du Pays, en développant à grande échelle l’ensemble des ressources énergétiques, gazières et en énergies renouvelables notamment ; (ii) Assurer un accès global de l’ensemble de citoyens mauritaniens à l’électricité à l’horizon de 2030.
A l’horizon de 2024, la réalisation d’un taux d’accès d’environ 100% en zone urbaine et doubler l’accès en milieu rural par rapport au taux actuel ; (iii) Faire du secteur de l’énergie une locomotive du développement économique et social.
Et le ministre de dire que la réalisation de l’ambition de positionner stratégiquement la Mauritanie dans le nouveau contexte mondial comme hub régional d’énergie intégrée et de production de minerai vert n’est pas gagné d’avance et que les défis et les obstacles sont nombreux à cet égard, faisant remarquer que le gouvernement a engagé des réformes structurelles sur le cadre juridique, sur la gouvernance et sur le développement des ressources humaines, entre autres.
De son côté, M. Gordon Birrell, Executive Vice President – Production & Operations de BP s’est dit fier du partenariat entrepris par sa compagnie avec la Mauritanie et le Sénégal depuis près de 6 ans, précisant que ce projet, de classe mondiale, est capable de faire une réelle différence dans ce pays et dans la transition énergétique mondiale en cours.
Lui succédant, le PDG de KOSMOS Energy, M. Andrew G. Inglis a présenté un exposé sur les Perspectives de développement du secteur gazier en Mauritanie et les projets de sa société dans le domaine de la transition énergétique. Quant au PDG Kinross Gold, M. Paul Rollinson, il abordé les opportunités d’énergie renouvelable pour le développement minier en Mauritanie.
Mme Cristina Isabel Banasco, Représentante résidente de la Banque Mondiale en Mauritanie a mis en exergue l’importance de cette évènement qui ouvre des nouvelles perspectives de coopérations dans le développement et la promotion des énergies renouvelables en Mauritanie.
Un point de presse a été organisé, par la suite, au cours duquel le Ministre du Pétrole des Mines et de l’Energie et ses partenaires, les CEOs des Compagnies (BP, Kosmos, Kinross, CWP, Chariot) et la Représentante de la BM ont parlé des perspectives énergétiques prometteuses de la Mauritanie notamment dans le domaine de l’hydrogène vert et les projets aurifères.
Il a été procédé, par la suite, à la signature des conventions MOU entre le MPME et les sociétés CWP et Chariot pour le développement des projets d’hydrogène verts AMAN et NOUR respectivement dans une période d’un an et le troisième MOU a été signé par la SNIM et son partenaire ArcelorMittal portant sur la création d’unité de production de 2.5 millions de tonnes d’acier vert.
3 panels Energie/ Mines ont été organisés au cours desquels des présentations et des discussions se sont déroulées autour des thèmes :
- Perspectives de développement des ressources pétrolières et gazières en Mauritanie
- Accélérer la Transition énergétique : Opportunités pour le Développement des énergies renouvelables et l’hydrogène à bas carbone
- Transformer le secteur minier.
A la fin de la journée, une synthèse des travaux a été présentée par le consultant international et ex ministre Tunisien du pétrole Mr Kemal BENNACEUR.
Assurant sa présence durant toute la journée de l’événement, le ministre du pétrole des mines et de l’énergie Mr Abdessalam Mohamed Saleh a prononcé le mot de clôture en se félicitant pour la réussite de l’événement et en assurant que les recommandations de la journée feront l’objet de suivi et d’attention particulière.
